Do you believe everything happens for a reason? I certainly do.
I spent an enjoyable afternoon visiting with a special lady yesterday. I felt it as soon as her voice was at the other end of the phone. Something told me, this is going to be good. She came out to meet our little Maggie, or Mohtzie as we now call her. Mohtzie has been waiting for something special, for a home I think is deserving of this little character.
Having recently lost one of her two dogs, Wendy is heartbroken and her Aussie x Border cross is pining for her old friend. Mohtzie and I were over at the barn when Wendy drove up and little Mohtz took off running before I even noticed she was gone. When I came around the corner, Wendy was out of her car standing on the grass, and Mottie was wiggling her way over to say hello. Right up into her lap, with kisses all over her face, an almost uncharacteristic greeting for Mohtzie who has read the breed standard and agrees that Aussies should be a little bit reserved. Well, reserved wasn't in her vocabulary when she met Wendy. I stood back and watched their first meeting, seeing a few tears down Wendy's cheeks.
We spent a couple hours talking about all the doggie stuff, about new puppies, and about the profound loss we feel when one of our heart dogs has to leave us. We shared a few tears while Mohtz slept on the floor between us. I sent Wendy home to really think about it some more, but I know she left here with a much lighter heart and a huge smile on her face. The email I received last night with the subject line, "Yes! She's got a home!" didn't come as a surprise, as I know this is one of those matches that was just meant to be, that maybe somebody in doggie heaven had a paw in arranging.
And so, that's it. The last of the babies from 2 litters this spring/summer to soon settle into life with their new best friend. And life here can get back to normal. Really, whatever normal is supposed to be around here. Paisley can end her drama queen hunger strike and rest assured that there will be no puppies staying. Capri can once again wear the crown of "baby of the house". And Belle can return to her post as "center of the universe", not that she ever really left it. I mean, this is Belle we're talking about. And shoes at the back door will once again be safe.
Happy Trails ... Theresa
