I don't expect your house is any different than mine this time of year ... busy busy busy, trying to get everything finished in time for the big day, and glancing up at the calendar I realize that Christmas Day is only THREE sleeps away!

I did manage to put up my tree, I think a week earlier this year. Always a real tree, it fills the living room with the seasonal scent of fresh pine. And yep, I totally indulged myself and had a few laughs when I added some spectacular trim to the boughs. Only left them there for a brief time, just long enough for my husband to notice, and he enjoyed the silliness too. But really, why not? We enjoyed an incredible year with Capri and the season is all about celebrating, isn't it? This year has certainly been a celebration for me.

And I guess winning all those ribbons has made Capri feel like she is somewhat "elevated" in the household and might just be able to get away with an extra prank or two. She does spend most of her time outside but when she's in, I certainly enjoy her moving about the house, visiting me in my office, launching herself onto my lap (or the keyboard), emptying every toy out of the basket, bringing me a collection of shoes, dragging the vacuum cleaner hose around, stealing the Swiffer duster, hopping up onto the sofa, etc etc etc. You get the picture ... she's a non-stop 4-legged being of discovery. She LOVES her world and of course, everything in it is placed here just for her benefit and entertainment.

After I decorated the tree last Sunday, on Monday morning Capri was kind enough to bring me one of the bottom branches. Chewed it right off, sap all over her muzzle. Hey Mom! Wanna play fetch! I brought you a stick! So far, she's left the wrapped gifts alone, though she did discover the new Christmas stuffies Santa will be bringing the crew, and trotted off with one in her mouth before I was able to nab her and get it back.

Paisley and Belle have been wonderful little elves, accompanying me on most shopping trips into town. I took the crates out of the van for a trip to Costco and since I have yet to replace them, the girls ride behind my seat ... however, when I park and go into a store, they both hop up onto a front seat and wait patiently for my return. It really does look cute with two beautiful blue girls, each sitting up on a seat, watching all the people and cars pass by. Both girls have grown into such nice young ladies, losing a little bit of their puppy energy but never their beautiful Aussie spirit. They are my best friends, my constant companions, my joy.

And as three sleeps will soon be two, then one, and the holiday will be upon us, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. May your homes be filled with all the joy of the season and the things that are close to our hearts ... the sound of family, the smells of turkey roasting in the oven, and the hair of dog all over your pants.

Happy Trails ... Theresa
