Dear little blog, how I have missed you. While laying in bed the other night, trying to fall asleep, I spent a few moments evaluating some aspects of my life (yep, it only took a few moments). Exhausted but happy as always, the word "balance" came to mind. If we were having any kind of success in the herding arena, balance would have its' own meaning. Herding, however, is another topic for another day. Balance is about a pleasing mix of work, dogs, and my life in general, and something seems a little out of whack these days. Contracts have doubled (though it feels like they've tripled) and it seems all I do is work, work, work. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my work and am always so grateful to have a career and a job that allows me such flexibility to pursue all the doggie activities I live for, and the ability to do my job even while away from home. But it's creativity that I'm missing and hopefully by reconnecting with my blog, I'll once again find that outlet.
Jeepers ... I even baked a pie the other day. Needing a little something to pull me away from the computer, while at the same time satisfying a craving for some good ol' fashioned comfort food, I took a few dogs outside with me while I picked rhubarb and then crafted a beautiful pie. The house smelled incredible. Poor Glenn didn't know where he was when he walked through the door at the end of the day, so much domesticity happening!
The other very obvious draw I have is the whelping box! Belle delivered her beautiful litter of four on June 16, and watching these little pudgy babies not have to fight for a spot at the milk bar, while they continue to gain weight at an amazing rate, has been entertaining. I really had no idea how much of a difference a smaller litter would make not only to Mama but to individual puppies ... each baby is a full pound heavier at the same age than pups from her last litter. Now I'm worried they'll never walk and will have to rely on rolling to get anywhere ... they're like little fuzzy barrels with legs.
This not-so-shy baby is the red merle bitch, who shall be staying right here with me and registered as Casselcreek Prim And Proper. We "dog people" always tease others when they name their pooches "Chaos" or "Riot" or other handles that bring to mind a high energy 4-legged tornado. Here's hoping that same train of thought might apply to this puppy, and that "Prim" will be the perfect little princess ... one can always hope, right?
